This summer I decided to indulge in the beauty of yummy salads.
For the past few years I have ordered my groceries from Fresh Direct but recently, a new Whole Foods-style organic market opened near my neighborhood. I went in to check it out and the food looked so beautiful, the fruits and veggies in particular that I started picking things up and had a basket full of groceries before I knew it!
I had to learn to shop in a supermarket again after basically checking off food from a website. Shopping in a supermarket is such a visceral experience. And this will sound ridiculous, but I was astounded at how much cheaper the food was — even though it was organic.
My favorite thing about a salad is that you can add almost anything you enjoy to leaves and you’ve got a meal! I prefer to use baby spinach raw instead of lettuce so that I can get more nutritional value. Balsamic vinegar is my favorite dressing although I sometimes just use fresh lemon juice so that I can taste all of the flavors of the salad. Nuts and fresh fruits of the season are also a good edition. I usually add chicken or fish to my salads but do what works for you.
These salads are not side dishes at all. They are the main course!

6th Annual African American Literary Awards Boasts Stellar Lineup of Literary Luminaries –including honorees Dr. Cornel West, Sonia Sanchez, Hill Harper and Terrie Williams; Hosted by Author and TV Personality Abiola Abrams
New York (August 26) The African American Literary Awards are scheduled for Thursday, September 23rd at Landmark on the Park. Getting to year 6 has been no easy feat. Founder and Executive Producer, Yvette Hayward says, “Similar awards programs have come and gone yet we prevail and continue to grow the Awards as a brand. We get bigger and better each year!” The 2010 honorees include Dr. Cornel West, Sonia Sanchez, Hill Harper, and Terrie Williams. Reader favorites are nominated across 29 categories from Fiction to Comedy to Self-Help, with authors ranging from Bernice McFadden to Blair Underwood and Tananerive Due to Pearl Cleage. This is also the first year that the Awards will recognize a charitable partner, Everybody Wins!, which is an organization dedicated to improving literacy among low income children (www.everybodywinsny.org).
After working with authors for several years, Yvette Hayward noticed that there was a conspicuous absence as it related African American authors. They had been historically and habitually un- or under-recognized when it came to their literary accomplishments. Books penned by African Americans as well as African American readership were and are an ever growing segment in the marketplace, having mushroomed into a multi-dimensional, commercially viable segment where readers spend over $375 million on books by black and non-black writers. In light of these facts, she decided to take action. And, in 2004, The African American Literary Awards Show was conceived and produced. It was the first awards show of its kind, filling a large vacuum in the literary community. Six years after its debut, the Awards are still one of the only consistent vehicles in existence that recognizes African American authors.
The Awards has seen its fair share of literary (and other) celebrities, having hosted the likes of Walter Mosley, Eric Jerome Dickey, Victoria Rowell, Zane, Victoria Christopher Murray, Hill Harper and many others. Past celebrity presenters/attendees include Zane, Gossip Girl’s Nicole Fiscella, Day 26, Power 105’s morning show host Free, G. Garvin, Finesse Mitchell and Broadway star Chester Gregory.
2010 sponsors include Barnes & Noble, The New York Daily News, TheGrio.com, Soft & Beautiful, WBLS, and Omerge Alliances. The show will be hosted by Author and TV Personality Abiola Abrams. For more info contact Joy Doss at LiteraryAwardShow.com.

Celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe and her hubby Rodger Berman are celebrating a wedding anniversary that mostly involves Marc Jacobs and fashion week. To bring the spice Rachel’s sister Pamela accompanies her brother in law Rodger to buy sex toys and romantic lingerie for Rachel from the glorious Kiki de Montparnasse boutique. Awkward.
Kiki de Montparnasse is one of those if you have to ask the prices of the instruments of pleasure you probably can’t afford them. Remember just a year ago when clean cut teen rapper Soulja Boy Tellem appeared on The View and won hearts by touting profanity-free positive hip hop music? If not then maybe you know that Soulja Boy’s carefully crafted good guy image allows him to introduce other teen pop groups like The Vistoso Bosses. Either way, all of that has gone to hell with no freaking handbasket.

Through the Tiger Woods sex scandal we’ve heard Tiger’s apology, mistress voicemails, web and a even a Saturday Night Live skit but one voice has been silent.
Until now we (the nosy public) haven’t heard from the jilted wife of Tiger Woods, Elin Nordegren. With her divorce finalized Elin is speaking to People Magazine. She will not be doing any more interviews as she wishes to remain private during her healing from the break up period.
5 Revelations from the Elin Nordegren Interview in People Magazine About Tiger Woods
1) Elin says: “I never suspected, not a one. For the last 3 and a half years when all this was going on; I was home a lot more with pregnancies, then the children and my school… I felt stupid as more things were revealed — how could I not have known anything?” This is super surprising. I guess that since Tiger Woods was probably always cheating there were never any signs of different behavior. Plus he had all of those enablers around him.
2) Elin says: “Money can’t buy happiness or put my family back together.” We agree Elin, but the reported $100 million divorce settlement can sure grease the wheels of healing. Good for you.
3) Elin says: “There was never any violence inside or outside our home. The speculation that I would have used a golf club to hit him is just truly ridiculous. Tiger left the house that night, and after a while when he didn’t return, I got worried and decided to look for him. That’s when I found him in the car. I did everything I could to get him out of the locked car. To think anything else is absolutely wrong.” We’ll retain our own opinions on the said golf club incident.
4) Elin is studying towards a college degree in psychology. We feel you, Elin. Deep betrayal makes us want to find out, what the hell was he thinking too!
5) Elin says: “I wish him all the best in the future, as a person and as an athlete. I know he is going to go down as the best golfer that ever lived and rightfully so. I feel privileged to have witnessed part of his golfing career.”
Tiger Woods returns the favor in a CNN interview where he wishes her “the very best.”
Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer get married: True Blood romantic wedding and words from the bride; Video below.
Today’s Kiss and Tell Report.
From blood, gore and sexy guts to a classic Hollywood beauty…
Our favorite HBO True Blood stars Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer got married this weekend in Malibu!
I am a sucker for love – and vampires I must confess that I am only on season two of True Blood - thanks Netflix – but very much hooked on the trials of Sookie and Bill. Just last week Anna Paquin, the fabulous bisexual starlet, posed for a super hot (or super gross depending on what you’re into) True Blood Rolling Stone Magazinecover with her hubby along with her co-star who plays the dastardly Eric.
TOP 5 ANNA PAQUIN – STEPHEN MOYER WEDDING FUN FACTS: 1) Marilyn Monroe. Anna Paquin wore her hair up with a halter-neck Marilyn Monroe inspired three-quarter length gown. Paquin also wore classic style platform shoes.
2) Neil Lane Jewelry. Celebrity Jeweler Neil Lane gifted Anna Paquin with a vintage-inspired necklace of 50 carats. Lane reveled to People Magazine that he also gave a bracelet and earrings to Paquin’s mother. Nice
3. Age Difference. Stephen Moyer is 40 and Anna Paquin is 28. I guess that they answered the question, Does age difference matter in relationships? There’s no word for male cougar but I guess that this wedding would make Paquin the cub.
4. Vampire Themed Wedding? Nope. There was nothing vampirific about the bride, groom or wedding ceremony. I guess they’ll leave that to the rabid True Blood fans. Hmmm. I have to wonder if the vampire fun makes its way into the bedroom. Maybe this is too much like briing the office home.

The Associated Press is reporting that Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren issued a joint statement through their attorneys today regarding their divorce. Elin Nordegren will now be known by her maiden name. Reportedly she will receive $100 million in a settlement.
The Official Tiger Woods – Elin Nordegren Divorce Statement:
“We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future. While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and will always be, of paramount importance to both of us. Once we came to the decision that our marriage was at an end, the primary focus of our amicable discussions has been to ensure their future well-being. The weeks and months ahead will not be easy for them as we adjust to a new family situation, which is why our privacy must be a principal concern.”
