Lady Gaga Supports Gay Soldiers: Repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (Video)

Lady Gaga Protests Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell With New PSA Video, below.
Hey Rockstars,
You know that we’ve spoken out here in support of gay marriage and stopping gay teen bullying. Civil rights for any group is critical to civil rights for us all. Artist Lady Gaga is many things but above all we applaud her activism for the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell in the military.

Check out Gaga’s new backstage video PSA about the repeal of DADT below and then get involved here.

In the PSA video Lady Gaga says, “We’ve known for many years that an overwhelming majority of Americans are ready to repeal. Senators, you have been put on notice by me and by the people of this country. You said you would debate and address this law when the Pentagon returned with a strategy, and tomorrow morning you will have it. So will you keep your word? Please keep your word.”

Thankful Thursday: Gratitude, Gratitude, Gratitude, Late! (LEAVE A LINK)

The power of gratitude.

It’s Time for Thank About It Thursday!

Yes, I know that it’s Sexy Saturday but I really wanted to start Thank About It Thursday in the spirit of our National Thanksgiving holiday. Gratitude is super central to my life. I end my days listing what I’m grateful for and begin my days saying thank you. Also on Twitter I have a nightly gratitude orgy with my beautiful friend @Divinity25 who posts #LetLifeGoViral.

Thanks for joining my new weekly Thank About It Thursday Gratitude Orgy. What’s a GratOrgy? Just what it sounds like. An indulgence in an “attitude of gratitude” as my personal guru Dr. Wayne Dyer says. If you feel so inclined to post for Thankful Thursday on your blog, twitter or facebook go for it and leave a link back to your site below.

Here’s what I’m grateful for right now:

1) I had a really incredible Thanksgiving. This is a really difficult time of year for my family as we have had many of our family members cross over at this time. This year, Thanksgiving was at my aunt’s home and it was so celebratory. I was exhausted because I flew in the night before and had to fly out the next day but no matter– the air was alive with love, fun and laughter.

Bonus round — no fights or negative energy. It was the BEST– with my parents, brother, sister, cousins, nephew, aunt, friends and delicious food. Yum. And for Christmas I will try my hand at Marilyn Monroe’s stuffing recipe. And for this, I am so grateful.

Thanksgiving
2) I have an amazing job right now where I am blessed to be paid to inspire with what moves me most LOVE. You’ll get to see this project on TV at the end of January. As I said I am exhausted but I really am having so much fun. It brings me pure joy to laugh, share and empower. And for this, I am so grateful.

Anabelle Kitty Kat and Her New Bed
3) I’m filming away from home and made the mistake of letting a virtual stranger stay in my home to house sit and care for my kitty kat Anabelle. When I can home, my lamps and living room were rearranged, my prayer beads were broken off the wall, my cat’s water bowl was bone dry, her litter box was overflowing, no food — it was crazy! My sister is also traveling so she can’t help care for Anabelle either.

Thankfully, my dear sweet neighbor, the Will to my Grace, stepped in and will be caring for Anabelle so that I can finish my job with peace of mind. And for this, I am so grateful.

4) I HATE cold weather with a fierce passion. I actually get seriously S.A.D. This year though I am committed to buying indoor lights that combat seasonal affective disorder. I will make an effort to bring joy to the winter rather than just hibernating. And for this, I am so grateful.

5) Oprah’s Favorite Things. I got to see one of these episodes this year and the power of the joy of her audience members was so overwhelming that I burst out crying. Oprah said that the point of her favorite things show is not about the stuff- although the stuff is pretty cool– but about the fact that miracles can happen at any moment. Yes, yes, yes!! Be realistic and expect miracles. And for this I am so grateful.

BONUS: I was able to spend time with my cousins’ beautiful children at Thanksgiving, and beforehand I was able to see another cousin who is pregnant. Blessings, blessings, blessings and positive energy.  And the goddess Iyanla Vanzant is back — check out Hayhouse Radio on Wednesday mornings.

Here’s to you and your family-- by birth or self created. Yippppeeee– for real.

Let’s meet back here next week.
What are you grateful for right now?

Is Cyber Sex Cheating? Online Dating & Relationships (VIDEO)

Is Cyber Sex Cheating? Love, Sex, Dating Advice, video below.

Most of us practically live online. I know I do. We shop, date, socialize, cheat…. Uh, cheat?
Yeah, as you know, faster than you can change your facebook profile to “It’s Complicated” that chick or dude you’re dating can be off chatting, getting skanky and cyber flirting with the next person. Damn.
As we speak actress Eva Longoria is divorcing NBA player Tony Parker for having a sexting relationship with another woman. Ouch. The question remains though: Is an un-consumated electronic relationship cheating?
Watch for my answer and advice. This video was created as a part of Tina Tobin’s Love Em Or Leave Em Dating Advice video series.

Indian Wedding Advice: Tips from Katy Perry & Russell Brand’s Wedding

TOP 7 INDIAN WEDDING TIPS & IDEAS BASED ON KATY PERRY & RUSSELL BRAND’S CELEBRATION
When pop singer Katy Perry married funnyman Russell Brand earlier this fall, it was in a lavish Bollywood-worthy affair. People Magazine reports that pre-wedding events included a safari, shopping spree and several parties in India. You may want not be able to rent out a wildlife reserve on the other side of the world for your nuptials but there are some meaningful ideas that you can take away from Katy Perry and Russell Brand’s this ultimate hook up. You don’t have to completely appropriate this South Asian culture to have a wedding accentuated with Indian elements.
1. Invitations and Ornate Stationery. Invitations, cards, announcements, thank yous and save-the-dates are important to any wedding but Indian weddings have the most incredible stationary. In my own starter marriage I ordered regal purple and gold wedding scroll invitations from India. My guests loved them. Special note: These beautiful invitations unexpectedly came scented with sandalwood. Be sure to get all of the details in writing if dealing with foreign vendors as you may have more miscommunication over the phone.
2. Multiple Ceremonies. With the bachelorette party, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner we have almost as many traditional ceremonies in the west as in Indian culture. If you want approximate the 3 day wedding that Katy Perry and Russell Brand had you may consider having all of these events back to back over a 3 or 4 day weekend.
3. Make an Entrance. Russell Brand most likely arrived at his Indian wedding to Katy Perry riding on an elephant. you can still make an entrance without this majestic jungle giant…. the giant being the elephant not Russell Brand of course. Come riding in on a horse, in a carriage or even a hayride depending on the theme of your wedding. If this is out of your budget you can borrow or rent a regal looking classic car for a Hollywood effect.
4. Henna – better than the permanent tattoos. Katy Perry had her hands and feet decorated with henna tattoos as is the Indian bridal tradition. If you want to honor each other with tattoos then I would recommend that you tattoo a verse or something that means something to you rather than getting each others names tattooed on.
5. Jewelry and Adornment. Indian parents collect bridal jewelry for their daughters for years. To get this effect without expense you may want to wear jewelry pieces from your loved ones. Ask your family members and closest friends to each share with you a meaningful piece. You don’t have to wear them all on the big day. You can wear mix the pieces and wear them over the course of events.
6. Entertainment. A fortune telling parrot was one of the fun things included in the Perr-Brand pre wedding ceremonies. You can hire a tarot or palm reader to amuse your guests. If all else fails ask your aunt who has the crazy dreams to help out. This is perfect as you want to increase family roles and involvement in the wedding — other than making them minions to your bridezilla self.
7. Exotic Location. Russell Brand and Katy Perry wed on an Indian Tiger Reserve. Find a comparable natural location at the Aquarium or your local zoo, park or botanical gardens. If all else fails you can approximate this wedding idea by including your pet doggie or kitty cat.
.
I hope that this Indian wedding advice is useful to you and your beloved. Remember that your wedding is a celebration of your love. The rest is all just details. Namaste.

Bombshell Cooking: Diana Ross’ Favorite Cookie Recipe (VIDEO)

On my mom’s birthday this year we watched bombshell diva extraordinaire Diana Ross in Mahogany. This is Miss Ross at her absolute Miss Rossiest! The costumes, the hair, the drama– plus Billy Dee Williams sans Colt 45 and original psycho Anthony Perkins. I could watch Diana Ross in Mahogany a million times although the message of it sucks to high heaven. Hey women– follow your own career to a path or drugs and destruction but stand by your man and all is well.

We kicked off our Bombshell Cooking series with original recipes from Marilyn Monroe and Josephine Baker. But what does a sexpot like Diana Ross enjoy cooking? Well, the closest connection that I could find to the fabulous “Dirty Diana” and food was an old album cover where the goddess is eating an apple.

But never fear!! Your Official Lifestyle Passionista is here. I did learn that Diana Ross and the Supremes were the first fans of Famous Amos’ chocolate chip cookies back when Wally Amos was apparently a Motown exec. Diana Ross encouraged Wally to make Amos famous and voila! The cookies we love were born.

Waiting for Sex: How to Tell Your Partner You’re Not Ready (VIDEO)

Love Advice: Waiting for sex? This video is a part of Tina Tobin’s Luv Em Or Leave Em Dating Advice Series.

Hey Rockstars,
Turn your TV to any channel from A&E to the Food Network and it seems like sex is always the answer. And yes, we love sex, how may we count the ways. But what if you are just not ready? How do you tell your partner that you want to be with them, you just don’t want to have sex with them? It seems that there’s as much prude shaming as there is slut shaming.

Be comfortable with your choices no matter what anyone else thinks. Watch!

Harlem Tourist Advice: Abiola’s Passionista Uptown Travel Guide (VIDEO)

Harlem Tourist Advice: Where to Eat, Party & Shop Uptown Style in Harlem
The wonderful folks at American Airlines’ BlackAtlas and Hello Beautiful asked me to share a few travel guides with you because I so love being “on the road.” I have driven across America with my peeps twice just to see this huge country. We don’t travel enough. Only a very small percent of Americans even have a passport.
Let’s start exploring in our own backyards. I have been a long time Harlem resident and although I am not a Harlemite by birth, the black capitol of the world is my adopted home. In my debut novel Dare (Simon and Schuster) I paint a glossy picture of “new Harlem” that has in many ways come true.
Harlem today is a rich historical treasure trove inhabited by proud people who have lived and struggled there for generations combined with new people who are excited about revitalizing the community. This is a travel guide for “tourists” who live in New York City and elsewhere. That’s right. Many New Yorkers have yet to discover all that Harlem has to offer. Come and visit but come with respect and reverence for all that Harlem represents. See you there!

Abiola’s Travel Guides to Harlem

Don’t forget to also check out my travel adventures in Guyana, Germany and Los Angeles. Nigeria and more coming soon.
